NAC stands for N-acetylcysteine. Chemically speaking, it is an amino acid containing sulphur, which is derived from cysteine.

It is a molecule widely known for its mucolytic action, useful in facilitating the cleaning of the respiratory tract, as it regulates the glutathione synthesis and forms an enzyme called glutathione-peroxidase, which acts as an important cellular detoxicant and is able to resist medicine, free radicals or toxic metabolic intermediates. NAC is an antidote for paracetamol poisoning. Glutathione is a part of all organs and tissues, therefore the use of NAC provides potential benefits for all of them.

The supplementation of NAC might be especially beneficial for conditions such as neurodegeneration, chronic diabetes and cardiovascular or hepatic disorders.

Moreover, NAC helps to reduce the levels of inflammatory cytokines by inhibiting the activity of NFKB, and consequently of cytokines induced by this factor, such as TNF alpha, ILF6, IL8. It further acts as a direct antioxidant towards radicals NO2, OH•, O2-, helps to reduce bacterial adhesion to mucous membranes, and supports mucolytic activity, which can remove bacterial and viral agents from the system.

Supplementation of NAC supports the glutathione synthesis and reduces the concentration of homocysteine, which is considered to be a significant cardiovascular risk factor.

Nac acts as a precursor for the synthesis of glutathione, the most important cellular antioxidant. NAC is useful in anti-aging, in protecting mitochondrial function from oxidative stress, and it also promotes the production of a neurotrophic factor and plays an important detoxifying role in the liver.

CONDITIONS OF USE

Take 1 tablet per day, with a sip of water.
