Where does it operate?

Optimood is a supplement designed to fight against psychophysical stress associated with mood disorders and decrease in motivation. It is based on ingredients obtained from medicinal plants of great quality whose efficiency has been proven by clinical studies and whose functional synergy is supported by the diverse action mechanism of each ingredient.

According to epidemiological studies, it is estimated that10 to 20% of the population suffers from depression.

The reason for that is a functional deficiency in some neurotransmitters, such as serotonin, norepinephrine and dopamine, in some parts of the brain.

The hypericum extract contains more active ingredients, which are able to enhance the activity of these nervous system mediators. The use of hypericum might be contradictory if used together with benzodiazepine, some oral contraceptive pills, simvastatin and some antidepressants. Hypericin, the active ingredient of hypericum, is photosensitizing, therefore the use of Optimood is contraindicated in case of sun exposure.

The Scutellaria extract performs a neurotrophic action enhancing the activity of the NGF (nerve growth factor) and BDNF (brain derived neurotrophic factor) biogenesis. These factors help the reproduction of the nerve cells by virtually normalising the GABAergic and HPA axis transmission systems, the production of cortisol and inflammatory factors, such as NFKB and IL6.

The lemon balm extract helps to improve the sleep quality as well as concentration, and to reduce the cortisol levels. It acts using the mechanism of inhibition of the MAO B enzyme, which decreases dopamine, and prevents the decrease of GABA, an inhibitory neurotransmitter enhancing relaxation. Lastly, several scientific studies have proven that the saffron extract has a significant and natural efficiency in the improvement of mood without causing the side effects related to the use of medication. Its principals help to modulate the serotonin activity.
