How’s working?

● Mitochondral biogenesis
● Anti-inflammatory / Antioxidant
● Anti-aging

Mitochondria is a food supplement consisting of a pool of innovative active ingredients which is presented in a highly bioavailable pharmaceutical form. They synergistically intervene in numerous fundamental biochemical pathways aimed at enhancing mitochondrial activity and protecting cells from oxidative factors which could be caused also by intense physical exercise, capable of triggering inflammation and altering cellular metabolism.

Pyrroloquinoline quinone (PQQ) is a molecule that is the subject of many studies by the scientific community. In nature it is found in many plant species and strains of soil bacteria. It is considered a neo-vitamin like factor, essential for cellular respiration and the immune system. The mechanisms of action are still being ascertained but it most likely acts in the mitochondria near the site of formation of free radicals, where it is able to intercept and inactivate them. It also acts as an enzymatic co-factor in redox reactions and, as it has been showed, it is a highly powerful antioxidant capable of counteracting various mechanisms related to oxidative stress is in fact demonstrated.

PQQ appears to be able to activate important mitochondrial DNA repair mechanisms. However, the greatest interest in the study of this molecule lies in the fact that, not only does it increase the functional efficiency of the still existing mitochondria, but it would be able to induce mitochondrial neogenesis. Moreover, it could induce also the biological process causing the increase of the mitochondria themseleves, which represent the real energy powerhouse of the cells.

Quercetin is a flavonoid with high antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antiplatelet power. It is in fact able to inhibit some biochemical pathways involved in the production of prostaglandins and leukotrienes, cytokines with a pro-inflammatory action, as well as to indirectly counteract the release of histamine. At the same time, it exerts a powerful antioxidant action, protecting the activity of endogenous enzymatic systems. Scientific evidence demonstrates its anti-aging ability as it fights free radicals. Quercetin is not well water-soluble and this characteristic limits its biological effectiveness. For this reason the phytosomal form was used in Mitochondria. The phytosome represents a patented technology of delivery system in biomimetics which allows to increase the bioabsorption of natural substances including quercetin.

Coenzyme Q10 (Co-Q10) is a ubiquitous organic molecule. It is frequent in biological membranes, and especially in mitochondria where it is involved in the aerobic phases and in the production of energy, favoring “cellular respiration”, or the production of ATP in the presence of oxygen. Coenzyme Q10 is therefore essential to maintain good physical efficiency. Its action is enabled by its ability to behave as a free radical acceptor. Furthermore, Co-Q10 demonstrates a very powerful antioxidant effect, effective, for example, in controlling the peroxidation of membrane lipids and atherogenic particles of LDL cholesterol. Recent work would also attribute to Coenzyme Q10 a myprotective action against oxidative stress caused by intense physical exercise. Since the molecular structure makes Co-Q10 poorly soluble in water (hydrophobic), it is necessary to provide a technological device to make this substance more bioavailable. For this reason, the coenzyme used in Mitochondira was Ubiqsome, or Co-Q10 with phytosome technology capable of increasing its bio-accessibility and therefore its effectiveness.

The superoxide dismutase (SOD) enzyme belongs to the class of oxidoreductases. Superoxide is one of the major toxic agents with oxidizing properties in the cell that causes greater damage to tissues. Consequently, SOD plays a key role in cellular integrity and it is present in almost all cells exposed to oxygen. The SOD contained in the formulation was obtained from carrot bioliquefaction and through specific studies its significant anti-radical activity has been demonstrated, superior to the more common SOD derived from melon. This substance therefore plays a fundamental role in limiting oxidative and inflammatory stress caused also by intense physical exercise.

Finally, the luteolin obtained from bitter orange is a flavone with numerous biological effects. Among these is the highly important protective effect on oxidative processes involving DNA in the presence of free radicals. Furthermore, luteolin ranks among the most powerful and effective polyphenols capable of inhibiting the production of proinflammatory cytokines.

Properties

Mitochondria is suggested as a micronutritional support for those suffering from all possible dysfunctions of mitochondrial origin involving the central and peripheral nervous system (neuropathy, muscle weakness, tremor, etc.), endocrine (diabetes mellitus) and cardiovascular caused by an altered plasma lipid profile.

The potential biogenetic activity is combined with sporting activity and in particular with endurance disciplines. There seems to be a possibility of very positive results in relation to them although it is necessary to carry out rigorous scientific studies.
