Turmeric is a root containing a yellow pigment, curcumin, which is believed to be a complementary remedy in chronic, inflammatory and degenerative diseases.

It inhibits both COX (cyclooxygenase) and LOX (lipoxygenase), two enzymes that regulate the inflammatory processes.

Turmeric’s medical use counts with a longstanding tradition; it is highly unstable at intestinal pH, little soluble in water, little bioavailable if taken by mouth and rapidly eliminated.

To overcome these problems, Meriva® Curcumin Phytosome was born: a patented compound with 20% curcumin content, obtained from highly purified soy phospholipids (phosphatidylcholine) that act as curcumin carriers into the cell membranes. In this form, curcumin bioavailability is 10 times higher.

Phytosomial curcumin has proved to be particularly effective in the complementary treatment of osteoarthritis, reducing pain and increasing articular mobility.

Curcuminoids are capable of both preventing and neutralising the formation of free radicals; they have anti-inflammatory and antiphlogistic action against rheumatoid arthritis, Crohn’s disease, and granuloma.
